What is the Young Adult Ecumenical Forum?

This Year’s YAEF

This year, Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC will host YAEF. Through education, prayer, worship, and advocacy, participants will learn how to fight human trafficking.

We especially look forward to the unique opportunities in our nation’s capital. By meeting with denominational lobbying offices, we will increase our impact and learn how to most effectively communicate with the governments, corporations, and other organizations that can put an end to human trafficking. Participants will leave with new contacts and resources to take on leadership roles within their own community after YAEF and continue action locally.

Sustained regional leadership and action are key elements of YAEF 2008. Participants will learn more about the specific problems related to slavery and human trafficking near their homes; they are often closer than we think. We will hear from the Polaris Project, an international advocacy and training organization that fights slavery at the community level, as well as other invited guests from affected communities. In regional groups, participants will develop more effective strategies to expose these issues and set the captives free.

Our Vision, Our Purpose

The purpose of the 2008 Young Adult Ecumenical Forum on Slavery and Human Trafficking in the 21st Century is to educate and to call to action an ecumenical network of young adults on the issues of human trafficking and slavery, both internationally and at home. We are united in the Christian call to “bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners.” (Isaiah 61:1, NRSV)
